Good-sounding, comfortable, and stylish gaming headsets can be very hard to find…especially if you have a limited budget.  Luckily, our very own AndreasL was able to find this decent headset from Creative.

My last headset got very uncomfortable on my ears after extended gaming sessions, and the microphone ended up breaking.  So, I decided to look for a new one!  This Creative Sound Blaster Arena gaming headset looked very professional, but when I checked the price I was surprised to find just how low it is.  Here are some specs on these comfy cans, taken from Creative’s website:

Driver Units: 40mm Neodymium Magnet
Frequency Response: 20Hz ~ 20kHz
Impedance: 32 ohms
Sensitivity (1kHz): 105dB/mW
Microphone
Microphone Type: Noise-Cancelling Condenser
Frequency Response: 80Hz ~ 16kHz
Impedance: <2.2kohms
Interface
Connector: USB Type-A
Cord Length: 8-foot/2.5m Oxygen-Free Copper cable

The specs sheet, as you can see, is rather impressive for a set of $80 headphones.  Of course, spec sheets aren’t everything.

The headset looks very stylish; it’s got a glowing white color and feels quite smooth.  Build quality is fairly beefy, on par with similarly priced “normal” headphones.  This particular set from Creative vaugely resembles the huge headphones of yesteryear due to their oversized earcup design (although they are obviously not nearly as heavy.)  In some ways, the design invokes an asthetic usually associated with Apple; white, with smooth, slightly curved lines.

Both the speakers sound great, with a decently wide soundstage (which is something very important for serious gamers).  The the noise-canceling microphone produced a clear voice, and is also easily detatchable.  Another thing I’ve been enjoying is the voice changer that this headset comes with;  if you go to your sound setting and then voice FX, you can find it.  Every now and then I’ll choose the “little girl” option, just to mess with friends on Skype.

Conclusion:

I know that Creative isn’t usually the first name that comes to mind when the word “quality” comes into the equation, but I found that this headset is indeed well made, and totally worth the price!  If you aren’t used to buying nicer headphones, they might be a little expensive, but if you’re looking for a gaming headset with great quality and some cool effects that won’t break the bank, I say pick up a set of these.  They will serve you well!
