A guitar named Freddy

Posted under Music by Pojut

I’ve been wanting to learn how to play guitar ever since I was about 8 years old.  My brother has played guitar for 15-20 years, and has some absolutely amazing guitars.  For whatever reason, I never picked the instrument up.

All that has changed.

Last Saturday, I got a Washburn Lyon 6 string electric (built like a friggin’ tank…) and a Line 6 Spider III 15 amp…a pretty decent combo for a beginner.  I.  AM.  LOVING IT.  In the short few days since I started, I’m picking it up quite fast.  After the first day, I had two of the three major chords down, could play the standard scale, and as of this morning I am able to play 7 different songs (4 of which are classic video game themes)

I think once I actually start getting good at it (it’s only been a few days since I played my first note, after all) I’m going to try to do what hundreds if not thousands of others have done: make my own interpretations of video game music.  Music runs in my family’s blood, everyone either does or has played at least one instrument.  I myself played Clarinet for about 6-7 years, and spent a little bit of time with a French Horn.

It’s a bit frustrating, because I have to go so slowly and I keep having trouble curling my fingers just right so I’m not touching any strings I’m not supposed to…plus I get this buzzing sound from the strings when I don’t pick them properly (which is frequent.)  Still, I’m just starting out, so while it is frustrating I’m not going to let it discourage me.  I one day aspire to be good enough to write my own simple stuff.  I’m not interested in playing in a band, or pursuing a music career, or being the best guitarist in the world…

I would just like to be able to play it.  Every day that passes now brings me one step closer to that dream:-)
